Steve Blume

Dive Kaikoura Owner, Dive Instructor, Technician Instructor, Photographer.

Main Role at Dive Kaikoura: Marketing Guy, and because of the earthquake now Builder, Plumber, Sparky, Painter and so on...

Steve has been in the dive industry for almost 30 years, he has worked as a Marketing and Technical Manager for Scubapro, Tusa and Poseidon. He also started from scratch First Stage Service and Training which is one of Australia's largest independent service centres.

Steve's knowledge of all technical servicing is hard to match, he often builds his own test equipment to such a standard that his work is in demand. Steve has been teaching divers to service gear for many years and has written the service manuals for Tusa and the training material for Scubapro, which are both still in use today.

Steve also enjoys his photography both underwater and on land. Each year Steve produces an Underwater Calendar for charity and so far has given away over $10,000 to worthy causes. Some of his work can be seen hanging in store and in the galley section on this site.

This picture of Steve was taken in Iceland while diving the famous Silfra Crack, the water was just 2 degrees C.

Getting use to local conditions, he passed his PADI Instructor exam in 1.5m visibility.

Born and raised in Christchurch, he can give you knowledge about local spots, as well as travel tips around the South Island and New Zealand, and has been a regular visitor to Kaikoura since he was young, as his family own a bach 15 minutes north of Kaikoura at Half Moon Bay.

Zak is a safe and knowledgeable instructor, and you will enjoy your diving with him, following his bright pink fins along the way, that’s if you make it to the dive site without Zak stalling the van numerous times along the way!
