Coastguard Kaikoura was started in 1968 as the Kaikoura Lifeboat Institution Inc.

We have a 15 member strong crew that are highly trained and passionate about being the best they can be.

In 2009 we expanded our headquarters adding a training room over our old launching ramp.  A small colony of penguins has lived under here for many years and with the assistance of a local expert we have created a public viewing area and nesting boxes.  Groups are able to visit by appointment.
